our weekend

This weekend was one of those great weekends where Justin and I were able to spend a lot of time together relaxing.  We also were very productive.  Relaxing and productivity....weekend perfection in my book! (Sorry for being a bad blogger and slacking on pictures...)

Friday

-Dinner out with my parents and little brother.  He was in from school and I was happy to see him!

-TJ Maxx trip where we found the perfect lamp for the nursery.  (Justin actually spotted it--go hubby!)

-Home Depot trip with Justin to get much-needed hardware items for hanging things in the nursery.
-Couch time

Saturday a.k.a. "Baby Date"

*Justin decided that this past Saturday was a "Baby Date" because we had lots of things to do that revolved all around Adeline (yes, she's stealing the show already ;)*

-My first experience at IHOP (Justin loves the place!)...the traditional French Toast hit the spot! I received my first crazy stranger attention.  As I walked in the door, the ladies went crazy over my "cute bump"...oohing and ahhing.  It didn't stop until we left.  So funny.

-We had our "Basic Baby Care Course" at the hospital.  Some good stuff.  But we both decided that all-in-all it was pretty boring.  The breastfeeding class kept our attention a lot more...much more informational.

-Our hospital tour followed right after.  (Not gonna lie...seeing the actual delivery room made me nervous.  I'm still going with the "what you don't know won't hurt you" motto.  I can remain naive for a few more weeks, right?)  The tour was good.  We feel great about the hospital.  Their security system for newborns really impressed us.

-Wendy's stop because this pregnant girl is always hungry.

-Hobby Lobby stop to get mirrors I just had  to have for the nursery...but we ended up not even using them.  Now I have to take them back.  Grr my indecisiveness and impatience.

-Home to relax for a bit and then we worked for a long time on the nursery.  So fun...but definitely took patience.  Let's just say my husband holds me together when I often want to fall apart over silly things...such as the curtain rod not looking just right.  (We are still placing a few finishing touches and then I will let y'all see it!)

-I actually cooked dinner--Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken--it was Justin's "reward" from me for working so hard on the nursery.  Food works every time. :)

Sunday

-Church

-Lunch after at Arby's with our families

-I organized my new coupon binder (more to come on that).

-Justin worked outside while I went to the grocery.

-I took my first attempt at freezer cooking (more to come on that, too).

-Dinner at home

-Decorated the house for Fall

-We ended the evening playing Yahtzee (Justin had never played!) and relaxing.

That's it in an nutshell.  It was one of those great weekends that makes a Monday morning even more difficult! How was your weekend?

thank you, Lord, for the weekend

This weekend was a fabulous break that was much-needed after the first full week back to teaching since before Christmas break.  (Yes, we've had at least one or more snow days a week since then.  Crazy!)  Our weekend has been nice and relaxing!

Friday

On Friday night we went with a group from church to Winter Jam, a Christian concert that included awesome artists such as Newsboys (fabulous!), Kutless, Francesca Battistelli, and our favorite, David Crowder Band.  You can't beat a concert that is $10 at the door.  We had a great time!

Saturday

Well we slept into 10:30 on Saturday.  Amazing.

Met my parents to try out a new Mexican restaurant...which was delicious.  I had a "soft" chimichanga for the first time.  Love that they give a non-fried option!

Meal-planned, cut coupons, and got my grocery list ready.
(We have started using e-mealz which I am super excited about.  You get a week's worth of meal plans each week that has been matched to a store's sales ad.  My friend Cheri [see above] found it.  It's endorsed by Dave Ramsey.  Perfect.  And because we do almost everything together, we're trying this new meal planning thing at the same time to help both of our budgets.  There's nothing like having close couple friends! I will probably blog more about it another time, but so far it is fab.u.lous.  Check it out.)

That afternoon we relaxed at home, I did some laundry because dirty clothes had taken over our house.
No joke.
We ended the day by having dinner at Justin's mom's and dad's...yummy, homemade meatloaf.

Sunday

Our morning consisted of Sunday School and church.  Our sermon was amazing...about following God as a disciple and answering His call.  We even studied Matthew 16:24 ("...If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.")  What is so great is the fact that Justin and I decided yesterday that we were going to commit ourselves to memorizing a verse a week as a couple.  And yesterday, I wrote Matthew 16:24 on our whiteboard on our fridge as our first verse to memorize.
God is so neat like that!

Wendy's was the after-church lunch choice.  Yum.  I love their apple pecan grilled chicken salad.  (And yes, I have now written about three different meals in this one post.  Another one is coming.  Wait for it...)

After lunch we headed to the grocery store to try out our first shopping trip for this new meal planning thing.  So far it's working and saving us money.  Whoo hoo.  Just when I thought we couldn't shave down our grocery budget anymore, we have.  To God be the glory.  For sure.

Now we are "vegging" (do any of y'all use that term?) at home before heading back up to church for "Soup"er Bowl Sunday...soup for dinner and then watching half of the game with the youth group (while hubby does his youth-leader thing and I do my grading papers thing.)  And I will add...yes.  I confess.  I honestly only watch for the commercials.  We're a basketball state, not a football state.

What were the highlights of your weekend?

weekend joy

We had a fun-filled weekend.  It was so nice to actually have some time together and wife and hubby also...it just doesn't seem to happen enough here lately, so we soaked up every minute of it we could this weekend.

Friday night started with a Reds game with my brother and dad (my mom was in Cinci for the Methodist Conference so we took the opportunity to go see a game when we went to see her).  We love baseball in this family.

We had two foul balls come straight to us during the game.  The first one was coming directly at my face...thankfully my brother threw up his hands to grab it..unfortunately it bounced away from us...but he did save my life...I'm sure of it.

The second foul ball that came our way bounced out of someone's hands a few seats down from us...and Justin caught it on the fumble!

We filled up on hot dogs, peanuts, ice cream and soft drinks.  Gotta love ballpark food! The game ended in extra innings and there was a beautiful fireworks show we got to watch as we crossed the bridge back into Kentucky.  Fun night!

Saturday turned into a "date day" for Justin and me.  Gotta love those unplanned days that end up like that.  We headed downtown for a Greek festival and got some amazing Greek food....gyros, Greek salad, and Greek french fries...while listening to Greek music.

Next, we went to the waterfront and walked around downtown.  We're home to the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bats...yep, they're made right here!

Next, we found a side street next to a famous hotel in downtown Louisville.  There was a red carpet, lots of stages being set up, and fancy people and cars.  The hotel has a museum and restaurant with a lot of modern art...hence why we found this little guy when we mosied our way down the street to see what was going on.

On our way back up the street I made eye contact with this lady coming up the sidewalk.  (Really I was looking at her because her jeans looked really cool.  Maybe I'm weird.)  Anyway, we got closer and closer to this lady and I locked eyes with her because she looked really familiar as she got closer.  Finally when I was next to her I realized it was Sheryl Crow! Justin and I both turned to each other after we passed her.  "Was that Sheryl Crow?" "Yeah, that was Sheryl Crow!" Then it hit us how goofy we were not to have said something to her...there was no one else around...I know she would have stopped for a pic, an autograph, a hello...lesson learned for our next celebrity spotting--don't be so stinking naive and speak up..since it happens so often. ha!

We went to a beautiful wedding Saturday night.  One of my dearest friends from elementary school married her high school sweetheart....it was a gorgeous ceremony and we had so much fun relaxing and enjoying the festivities.

(with the gorgeous bride, Tricia, and maid of honor, Kelly)

(with my handsome hubby)

Saturday night ended with a family ice cream run to Dairy Queen.

(we call him "dairy dog")

Sunday has been a day of relaxing and home projects....can't wait to share what I did with you! (Stay tuned for the post later in the week.)

Hoping your weekend was joy-filled!
